Things I love about Koh Samui.

We took off from Koh Samui a few hours ago. I'm already missing it; it's one paradise of an island. Here's a list proving my point.

The availability of delectable food. Seafood is their speciality; huge, succulent and just amazing. However, Thai and other cuisines are widely available. They've even perfected Western food! Everything from humble and local to lavish is always a treat. There's Nutella crepes and ice cream, coconuts you can drink from and too much more.

Our beach resort. We stayed at Amari Palm Reef Samui. It's hotel paradise. Plenty of space to chill out, a pool near the sea, lush greenery, traditional decor and the comfiest beds.

Trendy and affordable clothing. I bought some gorgeous dresses, a few loose tank tops, two bikinis and a pair of shorts there. I had to pass up on buying certain things, because I had already bought so much.

Massage and facial centres. The rest of family had their satisfying massages. I, on the other hand, went for an hour-long facial. It was nice, and the specialist who attended to me was lovely.

Nightlife. Not even remotely kidding. You can walk into town and expect a productive night. All the adults huddle into bars to party, while families stroll the streets. It's been a good and interesting experience.

Wandering dogs. I thought this was highly necessary. The stray dogs there are incredibly adorable and intelligent. They're mischievous, but I'm a sucker for dogs so I still love them.

Serene nature. The sunrise, blue-green sea, crumbling sand, tropical greenery, constant ocean breeze etc are to die for. I'm considering to retire there when I'm old and wrinkly.

Relaxing atmosphere. I didn't expect it to be so tailored to tourists, but it is. People who visit Koh Samui are from all over the world, and they surely come back once in a while. I can see why. It's also nice to have people with similar plans as you; to get away and let loose.

Westernized setting. Growing up, my famiy was always very Westernized. We haven't visited Europe or America yet, and I find that Koh Samui is the closest as I've ever gotten.

Travelling henna tattooists. I had to throw this one in. I love the henna tattoo, and I'm planning to get a similar design inked when I'm legal.

Friendly townspeople. Thai people are one of the best people on earth, let me tell you that. Down-to-earth, witty, earnest, generous and overall just really lovely. It helps so much.

Low-riding planes. The island is small and cosy, so flying planes can be heard and seen up close. Everyone stops to look. It's a spectacular occurrence, a thing we overlook in our bustling lives.

Repetitive advertisements via car. This is a funny one. The first time I heard what seemed like somebody using a megaphone, I freaked. It's an ordinary thing though, cars make their rounds around town, advertising Thai boxing, bars etc. I laughed when a boat pitched in to spread the word to beach-goers.

Free wifi. EVERYWHERE. 'Nuff said.

Okay, that's a wrap! Hope I didn't bore you. So if you're looking for somewhere calm, in touch with coastal nature with the right amount of civilisation, go to Koh Samui! You won't regret it, I promise.
