So after Tom had been pressing me to watch Crazy, Stupid, Love., I finally gave in. I had a free afternoon today, hence the obliging attitude. Even though the movie lasted for 2 hours, I actually don't regret it one bit - partially because I was all warm and cosy. It's now in my list of favourite rom-coms (as you may know, I am a sucker for the genre.)
For me, it bears a similar brand of humour to You Again, yet another one of my highly recommended faves. The plot of Crazy, Stupid, Love. is well-constructed, and definitely features realistic ups and downs. The movie revolves around multiple characters who fall in and out of love, face the struggles and come to terms with reality. They are unknowingly linked (until it's revealed at the end), and despite this they grow to make each other a better person. Though I feel like that one surprise towards the end was not only refreshing, but ironically brilliant. I hadn't laughed so much in weeks!
Not to mention, both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were playing their roles as a couple. I was very much pleased to see that it didn't kick off with a typical love-at-first-sight fling; there was much more of a focus on how they realised they were compatible for each other. Both awkward and adorable, Emma outdoes herself yet again. It's so lovely to see such a witty, beautiful actress pair up with an equally valuable actor. (Note certain scenes of Ryan Gosling - wow. Tom, I now understand why he's your celebrity idol *coughcrushcough*. I'm left speechless, he really is the definition of 'attractive'.)
What kind of a question is that? You're Ryan Gosling.
And of course, all romantic comedies have to end well. It certainly was not tacky, and I'd have to say the storyline flowed immensely well. On the plus side, I'm now aware of the fact that actress who played Jessica, was actually an America's Next Top Model contestant. I must be slow when it comes to these things, but her name is Analeigh Tipton and she's unbelievably gorgeous.
Another thing is, Robbie really touched my heart. The 13-year-old boy is wildly motivated to prove his love for Jessica, and as he deems it, they're so-called 'soulmates'. Although I do find him insanely bold and daft to have professed his love publicly, I sort of admire the kid. He's got his priorities right as we see in the end, and so does Cal (the main character) as shown below. If you truly love someone, you'd keep trying even though your spirit's all worn out. And that made me fall into a subconscious state of deep thought.
All in all, this is definitely a film worth watching. For all of this, the movie earns a well deserved 5 stars.
