Day Wave + Mosquito Coast.

A few days prior to the Gang of Youths concert, I learned that one of my favourite artists Day Wave was in the opening act. I was pretty astounded, and brought this up (a little too excitedly) to Dan – and thus, we made the spontaneous decision to go.
Day Wave playing for first time in Perth! // Mosquito Coast (winners of Triple J Unearthed High 2015) delivering the goods
The coolest bit? As we left the concert early, Dan managed to spot Jackson himself, and we wound up having a nice little chat with him on our way out. He was real lovely, and I got to tell him how much his music meant to me. (My ultimate wish fulfilled; twas memorable.) Pretty surreal experience, if you ask me.

Always blue.

I've been appreciating this 3-day dose of colder weather. It's been in the late 20s in lieu of the usual high 30s. With that in mind, I'm appraising the usual heat. / Summer is dashing by quickly, and proving to be of felicity. This disposition is priceless; it's poetic justice. (I could never get enough.) Despite the involved idleness, my bad thoughts still hit. / Yet as it seems, being accepting of them - and letting them pass - has been much easier. I can only think to myself, 'These days are worth living for. I wouldn't want to be anything else but alive.'

It's true. Adversity helps you better appreciate the brighter side.

Musical Muses #10 // Music sounds better with you.

With the start of another year, more new music is inevitable. I've therefore deemed it necessary to round up my favourites of the later half of 2015 - for your immediate enjoyment here, all at your fingertips! (Arranged in various streaming mediums; despite the order I love these all equally.) These songs have not only been dear to me, but also to the new people in my life. So chuck a listen, my friends!

SPOTIFY ALBUMS

Neon Indian // VEGA INTL. Night School Neon Indian takes to the stand this year, unveiling the true brainchild of a third album even having lost all initial progress. Amazingly, Vega Intl. Night school smashes any premonitions one might have whenever new music is released, and is no doubt a testament to Palomo's timelessness. This time, the newly adopted glitz and glamour is only befitting. What follows is only arrant longevity, oozing with goodness. Whilst it encroaches on disco territory, the album works in favour of delivering feverish techno tunes. Behind every maverick song title are more playful and chromatic sounds. But what is Neon Indian without plenty of packed substance? Vega Intl. Night school gives critics a run for their money, and grows on you as an original, refreshingly sensual oeuvre.
get ya groove on: Annie + The Glitzy Hive + Slumlord + C'est La Vie (Say The Casualties!) + Street Level + Smut! + Bozo

Moses Gunn Collective // Mercy Mountain Hailing from Brisbane is Moses Gunn Collective, whom infectiously present their brand of psychedelic glitter rock. Mercy Mountain is a surreal frenzy of a record, that encloses such hypnotic melancholy it permeates throughout. Spanning a little over a dozen tracks, each song overlaps in a cohesive buildup and allows oneself to be immersed in a soul-staggering continuum. Whilst many songs stay true to its garage rock roots, a pleasant hint of tropical dream pop is evident amongst denser guitar melodies. The resulting infusion of Mercy Mountain holds no mercy in contention, for it sets a league of its own.
viciously devouring: Shalala + Hot Mess + Mulberry + Back Into The Womb + Desdamona + Mercy Mountain + Neighbourhood

Slum Sociable // TQ There is something so tranquil about Slum Sociable that gets me giddy with delight. You may know my previous obsession with their debut track 'Anyway', and I've come to love some of their other stuff. I've been viciously listening to them on repeat, whatever the mood. pining after: All Night + Not Everything Turns to Gold + Apartment + Luck So Far

Alpine // Yuck! Leisurely-paced, the album remains a tribute to Alpine's unconventional take on indie pop. Yuck is impeccably produced, and this is accredited to its blended instrumentals and gentle vocals. Amidst the dulcet vocals of Lou James and Phoebe Baker are the ambivalent convictions of being “a first world problem waiting to explode”, a modern reality that is brutally honest. There also appears the undertones of romantic dissatisfaction; the elusive promise of “love and safety” – a theme the album so boldly resounds. With every listen and its fair share of melodic fun, Yuck leaves you to savour line after line of candid introspection. heart throbs: Shot Fox + Damn Baby + Crunches + Up For Air + Foolish + Jellyfish

BØRNS // Dopamine There's not a lot to be said about BØRNS (except that he's bold and beautiful, and I love his music.) le crown jewels: Electric Love + 10,000 Emerald Pools + The Emotion + Fools

Beirut // No No No Easy-listening, calming, pleasant. Beirut is deserving of the highest order of these adjectives. They're just plain good. (No bullshit there.) step along to: No No No + At Once + Gibraltar + So Allowed + Perth + August Holland

SOUNDCLOUD

Screaming Peaches // Regina Formerly known as MOVIE, the eccentric British 80's-inspired-pop trio released their Rough Music EP. Yet again I found myself mesmerized by their music - this time, by the stellar track 'Regina'. A must-listen (if you want to get to know me)!

Family Hahas // Hindsight What really got me was the concept of the exceptional track 'Hindsight', along with the band's outreach to their fans. They sent me a lovely message over Soundcloud to show their gratitude for the support. They do remind me of The Vaccines and Arctic Monkeys meshed together, in all their mellow goodness - which I totally vibe with. Safe to say, I love them already!

Some words from Family Hahas: "Well we're from Colorado originally but we moved to LA last year. We grew up together and have been writing music together in various bands since we were 12 years old. Our songs kind of embody us as people. We're part of the Denver-based label GROUPHUG and are huge fans of all the other bands on their roster. We've released our second EP on GROUPHUG and it includes a cassette release which we're super excited about! Outside of our music, our hobbies include eating unhealthy amounts of pad thai, watching anime and horror movies, and saving money for gas and coffee."

The Jensens // Ever since seeing them open at the Last Dinos' gig (recurring mentions, I know) I've been wildly into The Jensens. They pack a punch that is only unique and vivacious, thanks to their own sound. Every time one of their songs come on I'm taken back to a happy place where headbanging and loud murmuring are completely necessary. swimmingly: Fears + Shark Thunder + A New Hope

(Now! Time for some ambient electronic.)

Cosmo's Midnight // Having found them through Soundcloud, they've been an instant go-to for my electronic cravings. Waves of chill electronica are hard to find, but Cosmo's Midnight makes it all worth the ride. You'll see just why if you dare to listen. softcore faves: remix of Destroyer + Snare + Phantasm

YOUTUBE

Last Dinosaurs // Wellness DEMOS - a trip down memory lane, for sure. I remember hearing snippets of their Wellness demos beforehand, pre-tour. Listening to them now definitely encourages greater appreciation for the many good times they've brought me.

Panda People // The Usual Place is a deadly combination of everything I love. Killer instrumental, layered electronic, surreal sampling and vocals... And some good ole sax to top it all off. I'd have to declare this my theme song for 2015!

HOW TO FIND MY SOUL // Last Dinosaurs live.

(Warning: Last Dinos puns ahead.)

Sunday Night saw an enthused me, with the chance to see one of my favourite bands live. It was an evening I'd been looking forward to for absolute ages. What overcame me was an unexplainable, concurrent feeling of both effervescence and tranquility. After the first one or two songs, I realized how natural it was to be able Stream all their lyrics by heart. To me, Last Dinosaurs aren't all just about eccentric funky tunes, but way more. I've fond memories tied to their every circa 2012 track, and their second album was surely one to send me in a surreal frenzy yet again.

So imagine me, close-eyed and vividly singing along. Honestly, what an atmosphere there was - even right from the beginning. We met some extremely like-minded people. Everyone's energy was fuelled by one another's. It was bliss, in the womb of the venue, as every guitar riff and melodious nuance ricocheted off the walls; just the right Time and Place, you could say. And to be honest, I have certain opportunities to thank. This very highlight of my year, as minor as it may seem, was all managed in serendipity. The fruition of these events came about with me putting my foot forward, for something I love.
"I try to crystallize my fictive thoughts / You may not realise, but that's what I'm here for" — Evie

That so happens to be writing. Never In A Million Years did I think I'd ever get the chance to meet/talk to any of the members of Last Dinos. Yet a while ago, I had a mountain of luck. Having the experience of firstly chatting to one of my musical idols was incredible (courtesy to Isolated Nation) - followed by the tangible occasion itself. I've found serious gratification in these intertwined passions. See, music has been a crazy paramount part of my existence and I quite literally could not live without it. Fuse that with writing, however, and you have yourself a winning deal.
"If or only you could feel this with me / Maybe you would change your mind, and tell me" — Always"
“Keep me in your flame, or burn me it’s the same / We're never gonna win” — Karma

In the case of Last Dinosaurs, they are quite possibly the most sentimental band I've had the pleasure of pouring myself into. I Can't Decide what I'm more happy about - the experience of being within arm's reach of creators who have had so much of an impact on my wellbeing, or the fact that I got to tell them how their music has helped. There's just something about Wellness that is evocative of so many earnest emotions. Every verse has me floating, almost suspended out of this world. For weeks on end I'd chime with its words regarding the overall journey of self: songs purely devised of introspection, the focus on growth, some touching on mental health, and of course, good old nostalgic love.
"If or only you could feel this with me / Maybe you would change your mind, and tell me" — Always

The conclusion: It's all Karma. Keep the positive energy flowing. Always stay grounded, know where you lie on the equilibrium scale. Take Your Time to assess it all. Remember your worth. You deserve the very best, nothing less. The patience pays off. Don't you worry, don't you blink. Let yourself take a chance. Things will go from Zero to hero before you know it.

THE WOODS // a warm guest playlist.

Two country-loving friends of mine, Reuben and Katie, kindly agreed to each compile a rural inspired playlist. You may have seen them around on this little space of mine. Hereon are their recommendations, some of which I've taken to my own liking.

Of the lot, I most enjoy The Woods by Hollow Coves. // I'm in an alternative place now. Perhaps not where I'd quite like to be, but I know there are perfectly sound reasons for my participation. Reasons that I may have been trying so desperately to suppress, that I now know I need to live with. In this temporary haze, sentimental feelings and fears have come to revisit. I've drunk copious amounts of honey lemon solutions, squeezed in plans, witnessed herbal therapy and lived in the aftermath of countless fires. Smoke, haze, ashes. // Of all things, I miss the woods. My short stay at camp has me yearning for its escape. I miss the crisp air and damp shrubbery, amongst all forest enclosures. Confined, but so boundless at the same time. The magnitude of unabraded nature encompassed all around me, making me feel small. The supermoon bright enough to tinge the skies midnight blue. That's what I need to be in touch with - the expansion of my horizons alongside tangible wonders.

ALSO, there is something really important to me, if you'll allow it. So. Animal rights + classical conditioning. From young I've always been a meat-eater. I'd never questioned the notion of eating animals much like any other. Though, recently it has come to my attention that it's not a lifestyle I choose to pursue. The luxury and satisfaction of animals as food has become less appealing to me, so much so that I am willing to give it up. (Coming from a girl who enjoys her lamb chops - but in retrospect, also being in awe at the adorable lambs at the petting zoo.) As much as I am human and focus very much on my kind, I think it is essential not to detach ourselves from other sentient beings. Veganism is something I would like to take on. As a first step, I've been attempting vegetarianism for the past 3 weeks and have managed to stay clean off meat from land animals. So deem me pescatarian for now, if you will. Many a time, such a topic has come up in conversation over a meal and I can't help but feel that awareness is necessary. My choice stems from awareness, which of course brought discomfort, but I knew that living in contradiction would be against my ideals. I feel as if it's essential to know where what you're putting into your body comes from. I would love to go on and on about this but I don't want to inflict any sense of negativity/guilt upon anyone. If you're curious, I suggest you take to finding out for yourself. I would be more than willing to enlighten, so do ask away. If you're interested, I do urge you to spend some time having at these links.

Musical Muses #9 // 2015 CONTINUED...

Because the sheer amount of releases from my favourite artists has been overwhelming, I decided it'd only be fitting to compile a Part 2 to my previous post! Can you believe it? It's incredulity at its finest.

It's taken me more than a while to post this, which I accredit to the fact that they're all being released in increments. (They've been such teases. There's more still on the way, so I might have to make another post. As per usual I'll just be hanging around and leeching off any sign of new music.) Anywho, let me be that conduit to the handful of great tunes!

Tame Impala // Currents There's no doubt I've had my heart set on Let It Happen, Eventually and 'Cause I'm A Man ever since they came out - but from the string of songs that came new to me upon release date, I've been really digging: The Moment + Nangs + The Less I Know The Better + Love/Paranoia + Gossip  + New Person, Same Old Mistakes

Day Wave // Headcase I've already showcased Drag beforehand, and no joke, I really do adore that song. There's just something about the nostalgic lo-fi vibes of Day Wave I never tire of. No questions, just pure love and hype. The following I've been humming: We Try but We Don't Fit In + Nothing At All + Total Zombie

Last Dinosaurs // Wellness I am super excited to say that I'll be seeing them live in October! Having bands come to town and go, whilst being denied the access to relish them (18+ sucks) has been livid torture. However, Last Dinosaurs finally listened to our call and now they're back for an album tour, with underage gigs. I can't wait! Some exciting stuff coming soon. Brand new picks: Karma + Wellness + Always + Purist + Stream + Wurl + Take Your Time + Zero (basically all?!)

GOVS // 6teenDRE'am [night xo] Possibly one of the most gorgeous voices in all of my music history, I was thrilled to see GOVS back with more. His previous works have accompanied me on the most alienated of nights. My appetite has yearned for more, and bam, yearn and you shall receive.

Beach House // Depression Cherry Need I say more? Beach House has been a dreamy go-to for me, for some time now. I'm just glad I can continue relishing in those feelings of washed out, sublime gold. Getaway: Sparks + PPP + 1899-12-31 + Space Song + Wildflower

Atlas Genius // Inanimate Objects Never thought I'd like their new sound as much as I thought I do now; I'm quite fond of Stockholm + The Stone Mill + Molecules + The Perfect End, to be quite frank!

SWINGING SINGLES:

Good grief I have just been listening to these two tracks on repeat, as soon as they emerged. Look out for Slum Sociable; it seems that even their first 2 debut tracks have taken the world by storm.

ELECTRONIC:

Another excellent electronica recommendation from Beni. (It seems I'll have to feature her on this space some time soon. A real Musical Muse, anyone?)

LOCAL TALENT:

These Triple J Unearthed High finalists are really something. Local, yes - but talented? Absolutely. I can't wait to they make more headlines and even have a couple live shows of their own. Good on them for getting so far ahead at our age. And I can say with pride: hey look, our local musical scene is outstanding, too!

BONUS/OTHER DISCOVERIES:

Cub Sport // just gives me all the unexplainable feels. I can't thank Beni enough for introducing to me amazing bands, time and time again. Feast your ears on: Hands + Paradise + Told You So

The Mowgli's // I'm Good Another immensely feel-good track - as you've guessed it, thanks to Beni. Exceptional for faking it till you make it.

Oceanics // (self-titled album) Broken Record by these fellas has held a special place in my heart, ever since I found it. I knew I had to find more of their work. So. I went digging (and I found the gold!): Gimme The Rush + Electric Heart + Outer Side + Broken Record + Know Your Story

Superhumanoids // Exhibitionists Now here's one I never thought I'd enjoy. But I do. Perhaps you will too. Appreciation on rotation: So Strange + Bad Weather + Geri + Free State + Black Widow

(As you may have noticed, I restarted my Soundcloud account @hiraethist. If you've got one, I'd love to know what it is!)

Wellness.

  It's been a rough week.

Perhaps it was the congenital dread tied to the commencement of a new week. Sunday nights are a very dangerous time. The following two days were in similar pursuit: my mind trying to wrestle and take me down. It succeeded, for one.

What sparked it all: an unfortunate moment of realization.

I don't know if it's the late nights that imbue me with an incurable plague of sadness. I don't know if there's genuinely something wrong with me. I don't know if it's me at all, repeatedly nursing and gashing these wounds. I don't know a lot, and I am trying my best to find the answers for myself.

Then it hit me. All the things I thought were a part of me were perhaps a separate entity on their own; the part of me that tried to tear me down was doing no good for me. I needed to peel those parasitic layers away, because the feeling was multiplying - and I, in turn, was becoming the host for its torment. Yet it was hard to distinguish when it was eroding me.

I've worked out the triggers: the sensing of unresolved issues, noise, idleness, obligation, school... I know, they aren't the cause. They drive things into worse ground but they are not responsible for my hardship. It's all on me. I'm responsible.

I know I have a support system when I need it, an excellent one at that - yet the little cracks ingrained in me always host the shortcut to misery. The things that shouldn't bother me do. The things I am immensely grateful for have run short of solace. It's an eternal and internal paradox.

There's a lot that I wanted to let out on those nights. I had it all written up, sitting obediently in my drafts. Does it really have to be said? I question myself every time I spill.

But for the purpose of this being one of my safe havens, I want to share my lowest point. I know I am not alone, no matter how much my brain convinces me during those times. In revealing the weakest side of me, I urge those suffering to seek help.

***

I've had a problem. I never knew it was problem. I thought it was just in my nature, my character - for the longest time. I didn't think I needed to change. I was who I was. 'I am who I am,' was the mantra.

  I stay true to myself, I have a self-esteem, I treat myself.

  What's the problem then?

I'm neurotic. I want to say I am not ashamed of it but I am. I am ashamed of how I think so much. I'm a big believer of moderation, so it's never new when I'm always advised 'Don't worry too much' or 'Try not to think about it'. Honest, I tell myself that too. But I don't follow my own advice. I'm guilty as hell of that. No one ever says anything about it being okay to be emotional by nature, to be hypersensitive.

I'm scared the stigma attached to mental health will send people in the other direction. (I'm a huge advocate for it but when I realised it well and truly concerned my own wellbeing, I was so overwhelmed. 'I have to tread lightly. I have to be careful what I say, to who.' I remember telling someone last year. It was a huge step. She looked at me with doubt. 'Are you sure? You don't know look like someone who could have a mental health disorder'. It felt like a punch. It hurt a lot. That stuck with me. I believed it. I withdrew myself from the idea.) By people - I don't mean the people whom don't know me, but those who do. Those who think they do, those who I love and can't bear to lose.

The perceptions that will change. I've already lost sight of which thoughts are really me, and if others' were to change, I'd be kept in the dark. No one would know, not even myself.

Losing people is something else altogether. I am swimming in my own mind without end. I'm out of my mind, literally, whenever I even as so much talk to someone. Being caught up in the currents, I'd do anything to grasp onto a lifeline. It provides me with temporary relief.

We're basically told not to give a shit. Time will heal wounds. But. Is there advice about stabbing yourself and deepening your already inflicted wounds? Who do I turn to when there is no one at the time, but myself? Does anyone give a shit then?

I do. And I'm sick of infinitely feeling this way.

...

Let me first talk about why I love music so much. It fills the silence, instead of what would be my pool of thoughts. It is the only constant in my life. I'm in harmony with the melodies, every riff, and every drum beat. I know them well. I know they won't disappoint. (I mean, my immanence really is equivalent to uncertainty.) Hence, I cannot live without it. Music is what keeps me in a steady place.

Second of all, I'm a people person. I rely on others - full stop. There's no way two ways about it. This is the most terrifying thing to admit. I've been told I'm independent in some aspects, but personally I know I am more inclined to being dependable.

I get so scared of my mind. When I get to this point, I want to lock myself away. I want to run. I want to evade everything. I want to shut out the world. I don't feel like I can face anyone - especially the relationships where it's all surface, and no substance. I harbour hatred for small talk. I harbour hatred for how reliant I am on those I love. I harbour hatred for worrying them. I harbour hatred for not who I am, but how I am. It's a helpless place, and I'm descending further into the abyss.

At this moment, I am set right to implode.

I have attempted to track my mood patterns. They're always a stiff climb and during manic episodes, I am unstoppable. That is, until my mind drags me back down again. I wallow in that same old pit of misery. It used to go on for days, months. They only make an appearance periodically now. I have also retraced my own timeline of thought, through posts dating back to 2011. It's insane. I look back at something I wrote over two years ago and I can feel exactly the same as I did then.

I am trying to help myself.

No matter what, it ends up in failure.

***

Thankfully, I am feeling better now. I've been unstable, of course, but when have I never? I know I can cope, I know that in this frame of mind I'll be alright. I have sought out the people who are always there for me. I've had my share of outbursts, love and support, and the tears which had been suppressed for so long. Now I know exactly who I need to see.

I'd been afraid of what was always wrong in me. It was a manifested web I'd fallen victim to. I'd become oddly comfortable with it. Maybe if it eats me, sure death will be near. It will all end. I'd foolishly allowed it to consume me. I'd declared myself prey. Not anymore.

(It's funny. People are more alike than I think - especially those closest to me, whom I'd never suspected would feel the same. It's hit me with blinding astonishment, and startled me in ways. I'd begun to feel ashamed. I'd begun to feel more clarity. I'd begun to feel like it wasn't the end, for the first time. Letting it out was what I needed all this while.)

Now, onto the next step: to get back on track.

Time to fix myself, to take the determined road to recovery.

Lose it.

Vision, blurry. A liquidation of sorts. I'm yearning to come to the surface, for a tinge of air. The fictive manacles drag me down. I grow more and more paranoid writhing with all my might. Don't move, don't even think of moving. The more you move, the more distress you'll land yourself in. Just stay still, the ripples will dismiss themselves. You'll float right to the top, triumphant.
There's been overt affliction lately. I don't know if it's just within me and the others all around me, but I'm sure people I know, on the other side of the globe feel it too. It's the stifling momentum, whether it be of school/life/work.

Think of it this way: ROUTINE. Bold, scary, yet we can't seem live without it. It's tantamount; we are innately a part of it. We adopt it in order for ourselves to function on a day-to-day basis. Because it is so crucial, there is near-death commitment to our routines. There are always things to do, places to be and people to see.

But there's also time for a break - from the entrapment of our own circumstances. We just need to make time. To step away from it all. We are not machines, we cannot lose sight of that.

Guaranteed, it's not easy. When someone was visibly stressed, I used to try and initiate a light-hearted response. I didn't think much of it. That was insensitive of me though. Now I understand it all too well. I remember last night was one of sheer stress, I can surely say. It built up, crept up behind me when I thought I was going at my own pace. The task at hand wasn't even worthy of a breakdown, but that didn't stop it. Then it hit me and the tension flowed up, throbbing at my temples. An incessant reminder of the anxiety bank I'd said I'd keep at bay. Breathing became a task. But I ended up being okay. I had my lifelines, I called them. I removed myself from what was attacking me. So raw, so internal and seemingly harmless. I was wrong, but I had combated it. I knew I had to lie down and take a break. So I did, and by doing so I knew I had put myself first.

Amongst all the things I worry tirelessly about, school never used to be one of them. As of now it's claimed its priority, inhibiting the life I'd like to lead. I've been decent at it. I'd like to think I'm rather good at managing my mindset. Other times I completely lose the plot. I curl up and succumb, and plead for someone to save me. By then, it has nothing to do with school - but with how I can help myself.

These days I've considered everything, from theories of universal relevance to if the next beautiful meteor shower will take us. What really does matter? On the days I cannot sleep I think of what will come next, the next moment. Every fleeting second discarded away for what, bated breath? Why do we do this to ourselves? How is it so ingrained in us to worry without end?

I think of the times I've felt the least bit worried. The times I've lost it. I can't equate what 'it' is, it just is. And I think I finally understand. When you lose it, you feel happiest. All that was in your heavy possession is now relinquished, regardless of how temporary the moment is. It's a great feeling.

Time is a catalyst. When it reaches a scarcity, we are rushed to carry out our tasks. The rationality dissipates - so you, unfortunately, can lose your feet in the process.

When time is on your side, we become more idle. We're too comfortable for words. Because you have so many spaces to fill within your time, you can explore the impetuses of innovation with more will. You can look at what you're doing, with more ease, and re-evaluate. You can make clearer decisions and adjustments. You can just breathe.

So seize those little moments, they are yours. Unlock that 4th dimension.

Petals.

The cold creeps in. There's that despicable pallor on your hands. Flashes of coruscating light peak through, and you look up, wondering if perished buds could ever bloom again. It isn't that simple.

You've been waiting. Waiting for hours on end. Your physicality has slipped away from you. Your entity relies on the encircling world. The world is blurry without a trace. It could be in front of you one moment, foreign the next.

You lie, in a comatose state. You're nothing more than a headcase, soon to be a rested one. You would tell them: How could one be strong, if they hadn't yet experienced weak? You were weak and you accepted it. It didn't make you any less. See, now this is what they fail to grasp. You didn't mind the synthesis, of soaking up the foliage. Feeling over form, as common Romantics would resound. The act made you feel small, that you belonged. In fact, it wasn't an act at all. You were right where you'd always dreamt of.

Petals have shrivelled in your palm. All your colour is drained as the sun hides away. 'It's time to go', they whispered.
Every time I get stronger, while I'm waiting here for you / let the feeling take over, you've got nothing left to lose / tell me how you feel / why does it feel so, so real? when did it become so real? / Every colour, mixed together will make another reality

Musical Muses #8 // 2015 IS THE YEAR.

Before I launch into anything music-related: The US Supreme Court has ruled in favour of same-sex marriage. This is huge. This is revolutionary - a time to celebrate! Now it's time for Australia and other countries to take steps in this rightful outlook.
The first half of 2015 is yet to be over, but the music scene has been infinitely lively. With plenty of new releases from my favourite bands (albums and singles, making my love for them further intensified) and some uncovered artists I've warmed up to, there's no doubt a flood of hardcore love for these miscellaneous tracks.

+ The Wombats // Glitterbug
+ Neon Indian // coming soon!
+ Bag Raiders // coming soon!
+ Screaming Peaches // Tusk Vegas
+ COIN // (debut album out now)

+ Tame Impala // Currents (soon!)
+ Last Dinosaurs // coming soon!
+ The Jungle Giants // coming soon!
+ Atlas Genius // coming soon!
+ Alpine // Yuck
+ Strange Talk // coming soon!

Peace // Happy People Was in town for Groovin' The Moo and played a gig for the Rosemount Hotel. Unfortunately, being under 18 robs me of many opportunities to see my favourite musicians in live action. How to feel instantly kick-ass: Gen Strange, Happy People, O You, Imaginary,  Lost On Me // To fall soundly asleep to: The Music Was To Blame, Under The Moon, Blue, Saturday Girl

The Wombats // Glitterbug Ah, yet again a victim to the under 18 rule! I was too excited for words when they announced a gig for July, but to my dismay (in very fine print, may I add) the venue is Metro City. Nothing like a vicious reminder that I'm not entitled to watching my favourite bands perform live. Worship-worthy: Greek Tragedy, Emoticons, Headspace // Catharsis much: Give Me A Try, This is Not a Party

Tame Impala // Currents Hands down one of my favourite artists of all time. There isn't anything quite like psychedelic rock that's as soothing and stimulating. In some Youtube comments, it was mentioned that some Phoenix vibes were sensed throughout. And I couldn't be more happier to agree.

Blackbear // Deadroses This album has basically had a lineup of songs I deem fit enough to contend as my daily theme songs. Got me getting my groove on: 4u, Deadroses, 90210, Waste Away, Needed You, Dirty Laundry, Idfc

Sea of voices.

'In a perfect world / We'll see creation come undone / These bones that bound us will be gone / We'll stir our spirits 'till we're one / Then soft as shadows we'll become' - Porter Robinson

Oh what a hiatus it's been. I'm not sure what's happened. (Oh yes, school. Oops.) Anyway, here are the long-overdue photos from when I visited the SEA aquarium in my summer vacation! It's been a sure ride since then - with me holding on more than ever.

Yet I'm excited - I had my first exam today and there are about six more to go! I'm thrilled for the aftermath. I cannot wait to just get out there and indulge in more memories. I can't imagine what else might await me for the second half of the year. What I do know, is that I'll be back on here soon. Believe me.

Musical Muses #6-#7 // calm, hidden affliction.

I've been absent here for more days than I count on both hands. I've just been out of my head. The first half of my term holidays had been a hell of a week - more often than not, it was comprised of inescapable tumult and pandemonium. Every day had me waking up to some sort of ruckus, and by the time I'd tuck myself in I'd be too mentally exhausted to create nothing but negative thoughts. It's vague recount but all in good reason. (I promise plenty of photos will be up of my travels! Perhaps not for the present time being.) I'm just glad to be home now, back in this quiet sleepy town. Calmness is such a precious commodity. On days where my mind had failed to take me to a better place, music had helped me. Immensely.
Here's a two-part playlist compilation, of songs that channel more than relatable emotion. The first playlist, hidden affliction, was created in early March and includes my favourite picks at the time. The second playlist, c a l m, is an evolved repercussion of that. You may notice difference between the two, but they were both harmonious during my time away. Therefore, I thought it'd be only fitting to not share one without the other. It is beyond me how music manages to lessen discord and simultaneously fill the void. I earnestly hope you can let these tracks deliver serenity, just as they have for me.
Want to keep listening? You can find the playlists c a l m and hidden affliction over on my Spotify.
