Young blood.

Today's post will be a little bit more morbid and alternative in terms of human thoughts. We're going to be talking about people dying young. Yes, death. You heard me. Now, this was a request by a very dedicated reader who I have an immense level of mutual respect with. I just wanted to say thank you once again, you've made me one very happy blogger. I hope that you will at least find some satisfaction through my words.

At first I was contemplating whether to sugarcoat my concept of death and be the definition of pure positivity. But since you want my 100% honest opinion, I respect your decision and shall give you what you want. Keep in mind, I personally feel I have a limited understanding of the topic; in no way am I trying to force my opinion upon anyone.

For one to pass away at a young age is quite a shame, not going to lie there. Especially if the the one subjected to death is a loved one. A parent, relative, friend or lover. Undoubtedly it's going to be extremely difficult for you and others to cope. There will be an overload of sympathy, even though you don't exactly want to be reminded time and time again. You know, one of the things I always wonder is, 'Why do bad things happen to good people?'

I don't seem to have an answer yet. I haven't been around on earth for long, but I'm sure nobody else has the answer either. So I shall leave it at that, because to me, life is a rather sad thing in itself. Things happen, supposedly for a reason, but it all boils down to how you go about it.

Firstly and more importantly: let it out. Cry your heart out, seek a close friend to confide in and overall just succumb to being an emotional mess. There's no use trying to hide your feelings; losses occur to everyone and anyone. You need to remember that you are not alone.

'Time heals everything.' I bet you've heard that before, well, simply because it's the truth. It's going to take months and years to get over your dense layer of grief. I understand that you will always look back on that one day when everything changed for you, but you cannot let that determine the rest of your life.

Look, people come and go. They arrive in your life, serve a purpose and ultimately it all comes to an inevitable end. In this case, your father has been the best he could ever be for you, even if he may not have expressed it clearly enough. 'There are no perfect fathers, but a father will always love perfectly.' Be strong for yourself, and for him. Show him that he's done a damn good job of sculpting you as an individual - because from what I know so far, you're a well-brought-up and beautiful person.

To me, I strongly feel that death is peaceful. All the potential conflict, woes and painful situations that your father could have been experiencing at that point in time are now gone for him. He is now free. He's been let down to rest, to bask in a realm of tranquility. He may be physically absent, but he will always look over you. I believe in spiritualism - not to be confused with religion. You may have a different philosophy on it all, though I think we can all agree that death is quite consequently, serenity.

May I ask of a favour? Don't forget to smile, and stay golden.

Speech on homosexual rights.

Hey everyone, this post was requested by an anonymous asker on my Ask.fm. I apologise for the delay, and I hope that my speech may still be able to enlighten the friend of the anon. I do realise this is a very controversial topic, and my fierce argumental speech was merely for a school assignment/presentational purposes. Though I, in fact, feel very strongly about homosexual rights; I don't mean to offend anyone, especially my religious blogger friends, and if I do I'm sorry.

We all have different views on homosexuality; I am one of the two-thirds of Australians who support homosexual rights. Though, we all need to start thinking this way.

Allow me to introduce the basics. Homosexuality is defined as sexual desire or behaviour directed towards a person of one’s own sex. In our society, there has been a political and religious battle between whether it is right or wrong. Heavily religious people like to believe that homosexuality is forbidden, and engaging in it will ultimately defy the laws of nature. (Well they’re incorrect; homosexuality is naturally practised by 1,500 animal species.) In short, those against it simply think that homosexuality is sick and wrong.

But allow me to tell you what is truly sickening; these humans are willing to look down on their own kind due to another’s mere differences. What people fail to realise is that your sexuality simply does not influence your personality. Refusing to see someone for who they are because of their sexuality is classified as discrimination. Other factors like race, size, and other physical qualities are grouped under discrimination too. People are becoming more accepting towards these qualities, and gradually have come to see that homosexuality is indifferent. For those who agree with me, I salute you.

Let’s say you have a brother or sister who’s come out to you and your parents, looking to be accepted. The truth may be harsh for you, but they are part of your family and you love them unconditionally. You will get over the fact that they are different when it comes to their sexuality, as they are the same person you’ve known for years.

That is the message that needs to be portrayed. Love overcomes all. Shouldn’t this apply to homosexual couples too? Intervening with the romantic bond between two perfectly happy homosexual individuals is wrong. In case you didn’t know, ‘gay’ literally means ‘happy.’ I was at the Atrium Buffet the other day, and I saw two gay men holding hands. They weren’t ashamed; they were smiling and genuinely proud of their sexuality. I thought, ‘Yes, this is exactly what we need more in our world. Peaceful, content relationships instead of the growing violence we face today.’

Here’s another example. Compare these two couples: two homosexual individuals who have been in a committed relationship for a decade, and a man and a woman who have had a one night stand in a drunken blur. Let’s be completely honest. Who deserves marriage more?

You see, being homophobic is like fearing rain; you need water to survive but you’re afraid of a little drizzle. The exact same thing goes for love. Homosexuality is just a variation of love.

To those not convinced, you’re entitled to your opinion, as others are to theirs. You are attracted to someone of the opposite sex, and others may be interested in members of their own sex. The fact that they want to pursue their homosexual relationship involves them only. If you look down upon them, you stand to gain nothing from your disapproval. So please, do tell me, what the innocent, homosexual people have ever done to you.

A study by Life Site News shows that homosexual teens are five times more likely to attempt suicide. This is because the hatred some homosexual people receive is unbearable. Thousands of homosexual people commit suicide due to such spiteful comments and behaviour of others. Alive or not, people should never have to deal with such discrimination. Homosexual people are still people.

Here’s a quote that puts things into perspective: “Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?” - Ernest Gaines

At the end of the day, you need to realise that we are in the 21st century. Equality will prevail, and I will be here supporting homosexual rights. Don’t fight homosexuality, embrace it.

Lost and alone.

'Hi, I have a blog/video request :) Recently, I've been going through a rough time with friendships and relationships, and it's getting a bit hard for me. Many of my close friendships have faded, and I'm just lost and feeling alone a lot of the time. Any advice is appreciated xx'

Dear anon,

Thanks for the request. First of all I'd like to say that it means alot that you've decided to assess the situation and find help. Hopefully you find my words useful.

You see, this is a general topic. It really is dependent on who let the relationships go. Are you noticing a change in your friends' behaviour, or have your relationships simply just faded away?

Majority of the time, friendships and relationships fail due to misunderstandings. It's a sad fact but it happens all the time. Now I certainly would not like that to happen to you, or anyone for that matter. I strongly urge you to confront those who mean most to you, and make your worries known. It may seem intimidating, but you're going to regret it when time flies and you're still left wondering. Trust me, if they are willing to listen, you will reach a compromise. Talk it out and go with the flow - even if that means letting go of the friendship/relationship. Accept what's done and move on.

Life is short, you should only ever have time for people who truly care for you.

Though if it's the latter, I highly suggest you take a look at yourself. If you can't seem to think of anything wrong that might've resulted to this, then examine yourself. Is there anything that's been troubling you recently?

Because if so, you must not let these things affect the way you treat other people, or how you live. I know what depression is. It's a deep pit of self-pity and bleakness. Remember, you are definitely more than you think you are. I've been through this, so I completely understand where you're coming from. But please note, the only person who can determine your happiness is you. You are in charge of your own wellbeing - I'm not saying that everything will go your way, life certainly doesn't work like that. What I'm saying is that whatever happens, you need to shift your attitude to a positive spectrum. Distract yourself from the thoughts that may surface, and go outside and take a walk. Appreciate nature, get a hobby. If you find this all to prove futile, seek others. The human body can only do so much.

What are friends for? They're people who can always lend you a hand in times of need. As long as you two hold a mutual sense of trust and respect for each other, anything is possible. People need each other to function emotionally. That's what I think anyway.

Bottom line: Please talk to your friends about all this. If it doesn't work out, be wise and make friends who are worth your time.

Last of all, please take some time to smile for a bit. I promise it's good for you. You can always send me a message on Facebook, if you want to talk about this further.

Best of luck,
Rachel x
